Year In Review (2018)

A look back at 2018 to see what went well, what didn't go so well and what I'm working towards

Year In Review (2018)

I recently came across a blog post whereby the author gave a review of his year of what went well and what didn't go so well. In a way, it resonated with me as it kind of felt like a retro of the year gone by. I quite liked the idea, so I thought I would take it for a spin. At its core, the review covers three main sections:

  • What went well this year
  • What didn't go so well
  • What are the goals you are working towards

So without further a due, here is my 2018 year in review!

What Went Well

Moving to Australia

Without a doubt, one of the biggest things that happened this year was moving to Australia. It was really hard to leave family behind, and while these first 7 months have been quite challenging, it has been worth it. Sometimes we felt as if we were starting from scratch and the many months spent planning & organising the big move paid off as the quality of life is so much better and the kids are loving it as well! In saying all of this, I would definitely put this as a success!

Joining Readify

I didn't think that joining a company would make a highlight for me, but I have to say that Readify has been fantastic. I never cease to be amazed and the amount of smart people that I'm surrounded by and how willing they are to share their insights with you. I'm still humbled by the experience and loving every day!

What Didn't Go So Well

Reading

With all the planning, moving and settling in, my reading has taken quite a knock. In a way, it has been nagging me at the back of my mind the whole time as it is something I quite enjoyed.

What Am I Working Towards

Presenting at a Conference

One of the things I have always found challenging was to do some public speaking. I tend to be quite an introvert so getting up in front of an audience is no small feat for me. The goal is to present at a conference next year (I'm targeting DDD Perth) so I'm gonna be taking some steps to prepare myself so that I can achieve this goal.

Reading More Books

Like I mentioned above, my reading has decreased quite significantly so the goal is to read at least 2 books every month and get back into the swing of things.

Well that wraps up this post which will be the last of this year. I'll see you all in 2019!

Until next time...keep learning!
